Strong Kids Campaign
Every parent longs to give their child the best of everything, filling their day with enrichment, smiles and happiness. What if, despite your best efforts as a parent, you could not provide for your children in the way that you would like? What if you needed a little help? Who would you reach out to?
Every day, the Southeastern Indiana YMCA serves as a gathering place for the community. Kids pour in after school to play and do homework. Seniors meet for swimming, group activities and to connect with one another. To ensure that the Y can continue to provide area residents with life enhancing services, the Southeastern Indiana YMCA asks the community for support in our annual Strong Kids Campaign.
This year, the Southeastern Indiana YMCA raised $139,000. Funds raised for the Strong Kids Campaign will support camps, membership, and childcare. To donate to our Strong Kids Campaign, you can mail your generous donation to: 30 State Road 129 South Batesville, IN 47006.
Everyone needs the Y.
At our Y, we take to heart our mission statement including the last two words: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
We are so much more than a gym and swim fitness facility. We are an organization who strives to provide for our community through our time, talent and treasures that God has blessed us with. Our staff and board of directors believe it is our social responsibility to ensure that everyone in our community is afforded the opportunity to experience the health and social atmosphere of our Y.
Through the generous support and giving of our Strong Kids Campaign last year, we were able to allow over 1,000 children and families the opportunity to explore and enjoy our Y. One that they may not have experienced without YOU.
I have given financially to our campaign for the past 11 years since I joined as our Child Care Director. I saw first hand the difference my contribution made especially to that of a 3 year old girl, “Sara”. Sara came from a broken home in Ripley County. Dad was serving time in jail; mom was working a full time job and trying to earn a college degree to better herself and her family. When mom learned of our child care assistance program (funded through the Strong Kids Campaign) her world changed drastically. She no longer worried about the safety of her child. She gained the confidence and peace of mind to know she can focus on her work and studies, and we relieved her financial hardships by letting Sara attend our accredited early childhood program at very limited costs.
I’ve had the pleasure to see Sara grow over the years. A vibrant and happy girl, well loved by her mom, and still a close friend to her childhood playmate she met at the Y. Sara’s mom finished school, maintains a full time job, and remains a member of the Y without the need for financial assistance. To hear more true stories similar to Sara’s, join me by clicking our facebook link weekly through the end of October as I will share other heart warming stories thanks to the generous giving of our Y’s families and community.
Sunshine, smiles and God’s blessings,
Angie Johnson
