The YMCA Lifeguard Training at Southeastern Indiana YMCA is taught by Kristen Fletcher, Aquatics Director. Kristen has been a certified YMCA Lifeguard Instructor since 2006. She is also a certified instructor in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid through the American Red Cross. Kristen has been a certified Lifeguard for 12 years and enjoys giving this opportunity to anyone who is interested, adults and children alike. |

YMCA Lifeguard Training Prerequisites
Must be 16 years old
Must be certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer
Must be certified in First Aid
(CPR-PR and First Aid is usually offered as part of the course training)
(100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 elementary backstroke no arms, 100 sidestroke, & 100 rescue sidestroke)
Must perform surface glides head-first and feet-first in at least 8 to 10 feet of water
Must tread water for 2 minutes with legs only
Must perform long, shallow front dive
Must be able to complete a 500 yd. swim

Course Fee: members: $150.00
non-members: $175.00
Course Time:
· 30 Total hours
19 hours classroom
11 hours pool time
Course Requirements:
· Full participation in class
If there are expected absences during the class training, it must be discussed with the instructor.
· Must receive an 80% on each section of the written exam
There are 14 sections with at least 5 questions per section
Must successfully perform all water skills to the satisfaction of the instructor
Additional Information:
Lifeguard Recertification: every 2 years
CPR-PR Recertification: every year
First Aid Recertification: every 3 years
