Swimming Lessons
Children in grades 1-8 should be enrolled in YMCA Youth Swim Lessons..
Minimum of 3 students required to hold all swimming lesson classes
Maximum 8 children to 1 instructor
Due to size limitations in our classes, children will not be able to make up
missed classes due to illness or personal reasons
Progress reports will be handed out on the last day of your child's class. The
progress report tells you how your child progressed over the session, the skills
he/she completed, and those that need more work.
We ask that all parents please observe their child's swimming lessons from
behind the observation windows instead of from the pool deck. It becomes a great
distraction for the children and the instructors when so many people are around
the pool.
Child Care Swim Lessons
If your child, age 3 (and toilet-trained) through Kindergarten is enrolled in SIY Childcare and Family Center, let us transport him/her to swim lessons. These

Southeastern Indiana YMCA Stingray Swim Team
The Stingrays has its yearly organizational meeting in the Y's Conference
room in September. All parents are encouraged to attend this informative
meeting. School-aged children who are interested in swimming on the YMCA
Stingrays Swim Team need to be members of the YMCA and must be swimming at or
above the Guppy level. The team practice begins in October and the season
runs through March.
Parent / Child Swim Class
This 30 minute swim class is for children ages 6 - 36 months and their
parents. The primary objective is to get both the parent and the child
comfortable in the water. Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in
the water while the parent guides him/her to learn aquatic skills. The child
will be exposed to games that will use basic movements in the water.
Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water for each
class and swim diapers are a MUST!
Adaptive Swim Class
Children with specific needs are invited to join in the class for an opportunity
to enjoy the aquatic environment and to learn skills taught at each
participant's level. This program received NATIONAL attention from the YMCA of
the USA for the great job being done here! A parent or adult volunteer (18 or
older) must be in water with each participant.
Adult Swim Lessons
If you are an adult who has never participated in swim lessons, but would
like to learn to swim, come and join this class. Instructors work with
individuals to help overcome fears, correct swimming strokes, improve kicks, or
even learn the Butterfly! We will work with you to reach the goal that you
set.
