SPECIAL NEEDS WATER FUN IN A MEMBERS WORDS:
My name is Phyillis “Kay” Hurley, my daughter Dana Hurley has special needs. Dana has come such a long way in her lifetime and has achieved even more than what her doctors said was possible. With the strong support of family and friends she continues to grow. What surprises me even more, is the love and patience she receives from total strangers. We decided to join the Y about one year ago and we were informed about the Special Needs Tae Kwon Do program and the Special Needs Water Fun exercise class. As Dana began
participating in theses programs, the instructors in both programs took her under their wing, and treated her as family.
The Special Needs Water Fun class has allowed Dana to experience the water and gain new self-confidence. She continues to work on personal challenges that water can help her overcome. She is doing more in the water now than she has ever been able to do before. I want to invite more families who have Special Needs to join us on Friday evenings and experience what fun the water can bring you. See you there!

There is a reason why the YMCA is referred to as America’s Favorite Swim Instructor. In Y classes, not only are you taught in a caring way how to swim, but you also learn about yourself, about safety and rescue skills and about water activities you can enjoy for a lifetime. Please view our POOL SCHEDULE for the latest exciting happenings in our Aquatics Department.
At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for everyone. In swim lessons, we use a variety of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meet swimmers at their own level and celebrate all successes. By educating and partnering with swimmers, we’re determined to prevent drowning in our community.
A variety of class times and types is available to meet your family’s needs: mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Class size is determined by considering safety factors and participants’ ages, making sure classes don’t get too big to be comfortable for the students and the instructors. We offer group and individual lessons. Non-members welcome. Special price for members. A lifeguard is on duty at all times. For a complete description of swim lessons, including class times and fees please view our current PROGRAM GUIDE.

In preparation for winter swim team season, we want to help kids keep their endurance built up. Our instructor's years of experience will work on stroke technique with emphasis on endurance building. Children must know the basics in all four swim team strokes and must be able to swim the length of the pool without concern for their safety. This clinic will meet twice a week until the winter swim team season begins having practice September 30th.
Swim Team season is upon us and it is time to get started! The Parent Meeting will be held September 18th at 6:45pm in the YMCA Conference Room. All those who are new to the team are encouraged to be present at this meeting. We will introduce everyone to the program and cover details such as:
- Program Fees
- Registration Process
- How children are placed into their practice groups
- Practice times
- Swim meets
Our registration process will begin with a placement day on September 30th and October 2nd at 4:00. If you choose not to come to our Parent Meeting, please be sure to pick up the Swim Team Handbook at the Member Service Desk or on our website (available September 19th).
